Your introduction ...to the

Astronomical Society of Kansas City!

The ASKC is a non-profit organization of about 350 members

dedicated to promoting amateur astronomy in the Kansas City and Mid-America area.

Since its founding in 1935, the ASKC has helped club members learn about all aspects of amateur stargazing and the real science of astronomy. A major goal is to connect enthusiasts with other folks interested in amateur astronomy.

Our Club is made up of people from all walks of life, and with a huge range of interests in astronomy. No astronomy equipment or experience is required to join, just an interest in learning about the amazing Universe around us!

The ASKC offers a wide variety of member activities, including:

  • Regular monthly meetings on the campus of the University of Missouri in Kansas City featuring interesting speakers;

  • Monthly informal stargazing sessions;

  • Educational programs that cover many topics, including learning about telescopes and stargazing; and

  • Extensive public outreach programs using two observatories operated by the ASKC. Our public programs reach over 5000 people each year.
