It's past time for a day or two dedicated to keyholder training. There are several people who are nearly there. I would like to set aside next Saturday and Sunday for keyholder training. Nothing else will be scheduled for Saturday March 7 or Sunday March 8. If you want keyholder training or a refresher this would be a good time. I will only be there if someone contacts me to arrange a time. Don't just show up or you may be lonely. E-mail me or call 913 438 3825.
I plan to be there on Saturday only. I need some practice with the updated Software, 'The Sky'.

Let me know what time.

Thanks,
Jerel

I'll set a time when/if I hear from someone else. What time is convenient for you? Anywhere from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM is good for me.Sent via Gmail from David Young youngmdavid@gmail.com

10:00 AM - 7:00 PM is a good time window for me, too. If I am the only one I can go by myself save your time.

David,

Can you clarify for me where "key holder training" fits in the overall process of becoming able to open and observe at Powell?

Do I need to join a team first and then get the training?
Or get training and then find a team?

Or it doesn't matter?

Sorry for the newbee questions.

I could participate in key holder training on Saturday, any time, if that is appropriate,

Keys may be awarded when a member attends keyholder training sessions and then demonstrates to the observatory leadership, in this case David Young or Jason Forst, they are competent to operate observatory equipment. When they accept those keys they agree to join one of the Powell teams and attend each of that team's Saturday program nights. They are also paired with another keyholder for 4 duty weeks during a year. If a club member reserves the observatory for a private night, the keyholder and his partner are expected to staff that night and operate observatory equipment for them. The same applies if a non member group reserves the observatory for a private group night. A caveat is that only one night during a duty week will be expected. Keyholders may not be called upon during their duty week and they will not be asked to do more than one night during their assigned week. they must be given 48 hours notice of a private night/group. In exchange for the commitment to a public program team and being on standby during duty weeks, Keyholders may reserve the observtory for their own use any time it is not already reserved. Keyholders or members that reserve a night are expected to limit the number of guests to 5 people. (no one is going to count). Duty weeks and team nights or sometimes traded when conflicts arise.
