Hello ASKC,

I'm willing to host a class at Powell this coming Sunday night (12 Sept) at 7 PM on how to use SharpCap to live-stack images from the Ruisinger telescope.

As many of you know, we have experimented during this summer's public nights to the point where we can now fairly robustly slew around the sky, showing high-quality images to the public via a projector and large screen outside the building. The system we've devised is robust, but fairly complicated (surprise?) so it takes a bit of learning to master it.

I cannot be at Powell on the next public night (Sat 18 Sept) so I need to show someone(s) else how to use the equipment if we want to live-stack at that session!

Powell is busy Friday and Saturday with private events, so this Sunday night is the only good option this week. If we start at 7PM, we might have enough dark to demo how it works, assuming the weather cooperates.

I have uploaded some detailed instructions on how to do live-stacking to the ASKC "Document" area. It also documents what software you need on your laptop to connect to the telescope, focuser, and camera, and to do the stacking (with SharpCap.)

If you are interested:

  • Let me know via email (dmccallie@gmail.com)
  • Download the instructions and pre-read them (if you have time)
  • If you can, bring a laptop, ideally pre-loaded with the software listed in the document. If you can do this, we can plug it in and test your laptop live.

If you are interested but Sunday evening just doesn't work, let me know and maybe we can work out an alternate time.
