Last Friday I opened Powell for a private group. I found a 2 foot long copper head in the hallway against the west wall. I took it out to the field to the west. I was there today to spread bug killer and killed the weeds in the driveway. I checked every room and closet and didn't see any sign that it or it's relatives had returned. I left the snake wrangling rake in the classroom just in case. That's three times in 36 years so it's not a common occurrence to find a snake inside the observatory. I'm sure the relocation process was traumatic for the snake so it my stay away. Still, it would be a good idea not to just go rushing in.
