Why Donate?
The ASKC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, our special public events, educational outreach programs and our observatories are operated and maintained by an all-volunteer staff of members. Donations requested upon entry at the observatories help cover basic operational and maintenance costs, but as we continue to serve the public, we are facing the need to relocate Powell Observatory.
New Observatory Project
Powell Observatory was originally located in an area dark enough to view the many wonders above, but ongoing development means our once-dark skies are now often lit by the bright lights of ball fields and the expanding glow of the Kansas City metro area.
The ASKC has plans underway to relocate Powell Observatory to a darker site. Moving to a larger, darker area will safeguard against future light encroachment and will allow the ASKC to continue its mission to share the beauty of the night sky for years to come.
The construction of new facilities for relocation of the observatory requires a major fundraising effort. Please consider contributing to the project by donating here or by purchasing our 12-month wall calendar.
Library Telescope Project
ASKC youth ambassador Arsalaan Syed has high school graduation goals, and one of them is to raise funds for Library Telescopes to leave behind at his and nearby school libraries to make astronomy accessible to any student who wants the opportunity to have a look at the cosmos. Helping him reach this goal is really easy! Be sure to use the drop-down menu to ensure your donation is added to the Library Telescope Fund.
